Problem

Many people around the world consider the durian “the king of all fruits”. This large spiky fruit can be found on trees throughout Southeast Asia, where it has traditionally been popular amongst locals. However, as more and more people become interested in this unique-tasting delicacy, the market demand for durians has skyrocketed, making the durian industry highly attractive for exporters in Malaysia.

The demand for high-quality Malaysian-grown durians in the global market is increasing every year. However, Malaysia’s annual output of 405,000 tonnes of durian is insufficient to meet the global market’s demand due to the similarly high demand in the local market. This has led to an increase in the price of Malaysian durians as high as RM80 per kg

Based on our research, we discovered that Malaysian durian plantations today are still underdeveloped due to the following problems:-

  • Soil type, weather and various tedious plantation SOPs which may interrupt the annual production of durians, especially the high-end durian breeds such as the Musang King (D197) and Black Thorn (D200) durian trees
  • Durian plantations require extensive care and management as compared to other plantations such as rubber and palm oil, which is a disincentive to local durian producers as the cost for the management and/or cultivation of durian trees is high.
Solution
  • Lennex Technologies seeks to maximize the harvest of the Musang King (D197) and Black Thorn (D200) durians through the use of agri-technologies such as drone surveillance, remote data access, data analytics, and a specifically designed soil nutrition regime that is sustainable and eco-friendly.
  • Closely monitoring the durian plantations and the application of the MyGap certificate standards by the Department of Agriculture Malaysia to ensure the safety of the product whilst adopting eco-friendly planting methods.
  • Implementation of the latest SOPs and durian production tools as per Haji Lokman’s recommendation (a durian master grower),which have been duly certified by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authorities(FAMA).
  • Our company implements the latest planting method, which is double planting (To increase the production of durian and to reduce the fertility risk of non-performing trees) and using 100% organic fertilizer.
Product

Farming management at Lennex Technologies differs from standard agricultural approaches. Lennex Technologies uses innovative technology to continuously monitor the entire durian plantation to ensure that the durian harvest is not harmed.

Lennex Technologies aims to increase Musang King and Black Thorn Durian harvests by employing agri-technologies such as drone monitoring, remote data access, data analytics, and a sustainable and environmentally friendly soil feeding regime.

We specialise in the comprehensive administration of durian plantations, notably those of the Musang King kind. Our knowledgeable team offers professional management services, that is lacking in the durian business.

We keep our clients up to date on the latest developments in the Durian market and we provide industry-specific market research studies. Customers

Our target for agricultural marketing practices are those who purchased and consume the farm produce. We have established a strong partnership with the statutory body, Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA). Lennex Technologies has also supplied local supermarkets with our goods and products, thus gaining the trust of local consumers to select our products. The agriculture industry will benefit from our company as we will increase the marketability of the product and relationship with our local customers. Ultimately, Durian Wholesalers, Manufacturers and Retailers will be our target customer. We also would like to explore foreign markets such as China, as we would like to export our durian product to foreign market.

Business Model

The farm is developed and maintained by Lennex Technologies. It takes about 6-7 years for durian trees to bear fruit. A durian tree that is 6 to 10 years old can produce up to 150 fruits per year. By the sixth year, Lennex Technologies anticipates the plantation to be self-sustaining, with annual yields ranging from 20% to 30%. The yield will steadily rise as the durian trees age. The aim is to optimise the growth and yield of the durian produce while delivering secure, reliable investing via an easy-to-use platform on its website, both on desktop and mobile.

Market

The global commerce in durian fruit is currently controlled by two countries: China leads in imports, while Thailand leads in exports, followed by Malaysia. China, on the other hand, topped global imports in 2020, with 575,672 metric tonnes. The Chinese proportion of world imports has been steadily increasing over the years, rising from 49.3 percent in 2017 to 76.1 percent by 2020. The durian market in China is quickly developing, with the majority of imported durians coming from Thailand. Hong Kong, Taipei, Singapore, and the United States are the next cities on the list.

Asia-Pacific is not only the world's top producer, but also the world's largest consumer, with China at the front. Durian consumption in China increased at a quick rate between 2010 and 2019, with an average yearly growth rate of more than 16 percent. In China, there is a newfound demand for the creamy texture of the Malaysian Musang King variety, as well as an ever-increasing demand for Mon Thong. In 2018, China accounted for 65.0 percent of overall import value, with a total quantity of 431,940.0 metric tonnes of fresh durians imported, compared to 224,382.0 metric tonnes in 2017.

Competition

The Asia-Pacific area has dominated the fresh durian industry, with Thailand and Malaysia accounting for a large portion of the region's overall production. Thailand exported 496,915 metric tonnes of fresh durians in 2018, a significant rise above the 486,730 metric tonnes exported in 2017 and the 402,660 metric tonnes exported in 2016. Furthermore, Thailand has a significant economic advantage in transportation for exporting fresh durians to China, the world's largest buyer. As a result of this advantage, local production has increased to satisfy the requisite surplus for the export market.

Although Malaysia has shown strong momentum in its durian exports over the years, Thailand is still the behemoth in the global durian market, supplying over 90% of world durian exports. It is estimated that the worldwide durian trade will reach $35 billion by 2030.

Lennex Tachnologies aims to raise RM 3,000,000 (3Million) in funds for the development and maintenance of 4 acres of durian plantation through pitchIN.
