Summary

KASTURI creates brands, operates and franchise them. We do so that entrepreneurs can cultivate their brands while building a sustainable Food & Beverage (F&B) ecosystem in Malaysia. We are aiming to do so through a few of our offerings. They include franchise management, retail chain management and Design-and-Build concept. 

Problem

International Brands Bypassing Malaysia
Many well-known international brands are reluctant to enter Malaysia. A high number of international brands operating in Malaysia in the past have also exited Malaysia. Factors such as rising labor costs and volatile commodities prices have effectively prised them away from Malaysia. 

Lack of Malaysian Brands Abroad
Many Malaysian brands that ventured overseas have failed miserably while a limited few barely survived the test of time. As a result, only a handful of recognized Malaysian F&B brands abroad can keep our “Jalur Gemilang” flying high.

Kitchen Design and Workflow
Many F&B operators pay little or no attention to the kitchen design. Most of them are still using or inherited an outdated process & workflow without any upgrading or enhancement. In addition, poor execution, and non-compliance of SOP by businesses are other common pain points that remained unaddressed.

Hygiene and Safety
In general, low hygiene & safety awareness and expectations have been a long-standing pain point. Both the business operators and consumers have gotten used to it. Convenience takes precedence over hygiene and safety.

Bring in Renowned International Brands
Many well-known and established international brands are bypassing Malaysia or exiting the local scene for distinct reasons. For many years, Malaysians and even foreigners residing in Malaysia, have been deprived of the opportunity to savor some of the most sought-after food & beverages. That is all about to change as Kasturi will gradually bring in some of these international brands to Malaysia, either through franchise arrangements or business collaborations. 

Create and Build Malaysian Brand
Being in a multicultural country presents an opportunity for Kasturi to utilize popular Malaysian cuisines in a unique under-one-roof concept. Kasturi also aims to develop Malaysian Brands that are high in competitiveness, quality, and innovation with the ultimate objective of highlighting and expanding them overseas.

SMART Concept
The SMART Concept encompasses the design and build of a commercial kitchen. It also introduces digital transformation to the operation process and workflow. Lessons from the pandemic or lockdowns are a testament to the importance of digitalization to ensure businesses are well-prepared to face such circumstances. Being a complete solution, the SMART Concept will transform both the Back-of-House (BOH) and Front-of-House (FOH) into a new landscape.

Operation Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
Operation SOP will be developed, implemented, and enforced to ensure lofty standards, quality, and consistency in handling food hygiene and safety. Every effort will be taken to maintain, uphold, and adhere to the requirements of occupational health, safety, and hygiene standards.

Back in 2022, KASTURI officially launched its first international franchise brand, NY Pizza Delivery (NYPD), which specializes in pizza in Malaysia. 

The origin of NYPD can be traced back to a passionate Asian pizza chef, Thompson Ly, who left his home in San Francisco and made Shenzhen, China his base in 2007.

Chef Thompson’s original recipe of his ultimate pizza crust, coupled with secret sauces and toppings, has taken the pizza world by storm. NYPD outshined many contestants in numerous pizza competitions. 

Amongst others, NYPD emerged as Champion in the China Pizza Championship and nabbed 1st Place in the Hong Kong Perfect Pizza Challenge. NYPD had also been chosen to represent China to participate in the New York Pizza Showcase, a prestigious annual event held in New York. These days, Chef Thompson is a judge in numerous pizza competitions.

Malaysians can now get a taste of New York-styled pizza, created by an award-winning Asian chef right here in Malaysia!

Traction

The first NYPD store was opened in July 2022. 

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, KASTURI targets to launch the second NYPD store either in late Quarter 1 or early Quarter 2 of the year 2024. 

NYPD is the first step towards building up the ecosystem. KASTURI aims to enhance its franchise offerings by bringing more well-known international brands in 2025 while also solidifying its retail store presence through the introduction of its own Medan Selera Kopitiam Street Food Brand. 

In the coming years, KASTURI looks to introduce more homegrown brands such as Sebumbung while also introducing more international options by bringing in an international ice cream and coffee chain. 
 

Customers

Our main target segments are:
1) Central region (Selangor/W.P. Kuala Lumpur) - high population and spending power; and 

2) Age group between 15 to 64 years old
 

Business Model

We believe in developing a sustainable and scalable business model by adopting the franchise system. Our business verticals are two-fold; being the Brand Owner (Franchisor) as well as Master Franchisee (Local or Regional Franchisee).

The business verticals are further supported by our strategy to have multiple brands/concepts, hence widening, and diversifying the revenue streams. Overall, we strive to build a thriving F&B franchise ecosystem in Malaysia.

In general, the revenue streams will include retail sales (dine-in, takeaway, delivery), workshops, corporate events, parties, catering, merchandise sales, rental of Research & Development facilities & training, licensing/franchising fee, royalty fee, stock sales to licensee/franchisee.

As KASTURI continues to launch new concepts/products/brands, the revenue streams will also be further broadened.

Market

Based on the statistics from the Department of Statistics Malaysia, the total F&B market in Malaysia is valued at RM87 billion.

Out of that total value of RM87 Billion, the central region (Selangor and W.P. Kuala Lumpur) itself accounted for about RM28 billion.

It is a huge market to venture into considering that it remained resilient during the pandemic period in 2020 and 2021.

The market size is big enough to accommodate new players.

Our product offerings and propositions will also enable us to secure additional niche markets that are different from/not offered by other existing players.

Kasturi helps entrepreneurs build their businesses. We provide zero-to-one business solutions that include a wide array of offerings from state-of-the-art kitchen design, to digitalized workflow, and retail chain management for business owners. 

 

Funding

We plan to raise a minimum of RM500,500 and a maximum of RM1,500,200 this round.

We offer five (5) investment packages through the issuance of Redeemable Convertible Preference Shares (RCPS).
